Spanish bilingual section - general information

Our bilingual Spanish section has been operating at Secondary School No. 1 in Bydgoszcz since September 2005.

It was established by virtue of the Agreement between the Ministries of Education of Poland and Spain. We are one of the 16 schools in Poland that implement the Spanish bilingual department program under this agreement, the only one in our province.

Thanks to the Agreement, our school employs at least one teacher from Spain, we have a library in Spanish with didactic materials financed by the Spanish side, and a series of unique opportunities are opened up for our students.

What is bilingual education in Spanish?

It is an education system in which students, in addition to intensive study of the Spanish language, learn selected subjects in this language. Thanks to the Agreement, our students in the bilingual class have lessons in Spanish history, Spanish geography and Spanish literature, taught by a native speaker of the language, a specialist chosen by representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Education.

The program of the bilingual sections with Spanish is a program that enjoys prestige and recognition. It is aimed at general secondary school students who have a very good knowledge of the Spanish language and culture.

The objective of bilingual education is for students to master the material both in a given subject taught in a foreign language and in this language. In bilingual education, we place great emphasis on language proficiency at a level that enables students to communicate in Spanish not only in everyday life, but above all for educational purposes, and in the future, also for professional purposes.

Graduates of the bilingual section have the opportunity to take the Spanish matriculation exam, which is equivalent to the exam that Spanish students take (the so-called Bachillerato). Thanks to this, they have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to study in Spain.

Our graduates are currently studying at the universities of Madrid, Barcelona, Granada and Jaén.

Completing the Spanish section gives you the opportunity to land your dream job, regardless of your chosen field of study. Many graduates emphasize that they got jobs in various professions precisely because they distinguished themselves from other candidates for their knowledge of the Spanish language.

Current bilingual students have previously completed a Spanish bilingual high school, or have mastered the language sufficiently to meet the requirements for high school education.

While studying in the Spanish section, our students participated in numerous trips to Spain, as part of European projects, for intensive language courses and as school trips.

They also participated in numerous contests organized by the Ministry of Education of the Spanish Embassy in Poland: a photomontage contest, a short film contest, a literary contest, a theatre festival and others, in which they obtained numerous awards and distinctions.

The future of the bilingual section of the 2021/22 school year:

From the next school year (2021/22) no knowledge of Spanish will be required. It will begin with an additional year of intensive learning from scratch in Spanish. More information on recruitment and apprenticeship is being prepared in next year's section.
